Special Project Motorsports’ Honda FD2 to Compete in NASA 25 Hour Race

A couple of weeks ago, Michael from MTEC Industries invited me to a BBQ out at Special Projects Motorsports to hang out with a group of guys who were participating in the NASA 25 Hours of Thunderhill race up in Willows, California. I happened to be free that afternoon and was more than happy to go to check out their shop and their race car. What an amazing group of guys here! This was a big collaboration of racing junkies from California and New Zealand, with people from Gear Speed, Meris Motorsports, Motul NZ, and of course MTEC Industries and Special Projects Motorsports. They were all so friendly and so knowledgeable and I was very glad I got the opportunity to meet them. Jeff Owen, the owner of Special Projects Motorsports, had reserved a couple of hours for us at K1 Speed for some indoor go-karting action for the 15 or so of us. This was a real treat for me to actually race with all of these hardcore club racers. I am happy to report that I came in 5th overall and was pretty happy with that. Jonathan Meris, HPD Honda Challenge 2011 H1 champion and 2010 H2 champion, showed us how champs win by taking the top step of the podium on the very last lap from Paul, a very fast and competitive guy who was leading the race from the beginning. How exciting!

Here are some of the highlights from a fun-filled afternoon at Special Projects Motorsports and K1 Speed out in Anaheim, California.
